EPUD recently caught up with two of our past EmPOWERing scholarship winners to learn about the training they received and the careers they’ve started.

After attending VOLTA Line School, he spent his apprenticeship working with an outside construction company and traveling all over the northwest. He has been a journeyman lineman for three years now, and has spent the last two years working with a local utility.

“I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else,” said Mitchell. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had.”

Nathan Faber, one of our 2019 scholarship winners, graduated from Olin College of Engineering in May and will start his position as software engineer in the Bay area next month.

Although Nathan’s first step out of college won’t be working for a utility, his profession and skill set are frequently seen in the industry and can benefit a utility in a number of ways. Wherever Nathan lands in the future, we’re confident he will accomplish great things.

Scholarships are available yearly to those starting or continuing their college or trade school education and adults seeking second career training. Emerald People’s Utility District (EPUD) awards up to five $3,000 scholarships totaling $15,000 to students interested in pursuing utility industry careers.
