As we announced in January, Emerald People's Utility District (EPUD) is considering offering a new, voluntary Time of Use rate in the future. This month, we invite you to participate in a short survey that will help us determine our customers' interest in the program. By answering a few short questions, you'll be entered to win one of five $25 gift cards!
How Does a Time of Use Program Work?
A Time of Use program works by incentivizing participants to consume energy during off-peak hours when it's cheaper, instead of during peak hours when the cost of electricity is high. Through heating/cooling the home and using other electric appliances during off-peak hours, customers have the potential to save money on their monthly bills.
A Time of Use program also has the potential to shift 8% to 12% of usage from peak periods to off-peak periods. A shift of this size would greatly reduce the utility's need for high-cost energy purchases, and in turn, help to keep rates low for the benefit of all EPUD's customers.
