Message from the General Manager
Hello Emerald Customer-Owners,
Right now, much of my attention is on EPUD’s future. We’re in the middle of developing our next strategic plan, thinking hard about where we want this utility to be years down the road. But the funny thing about looking ahead is that it reminds you how much of what we do never changes.
Consider how fast the world has moved since EPUD was founded in 1983. Personal computers, smartphones, and now artificial intelligence have reshaped how we live and work. These arrived promising to change everything, and in many ways, they did. But through it all, EPUD has kept doing the one thing we’ve always done. We deliver safe, reliable, low-cost power to your home or business, day in and day out. Our core mission is evergreen, even as the world around it transforms. This is worth celebrating during Public Power Week, our annual chance to reflect on what makes this business model special.
WE’RE LOCAL.
Our Board and staff are your friends and neighbors, and we live in this community too.
WE’RE NOT-FOR-PROFIT.
With no shareholders to answer to, we charge exactly what it costs us to provide service.
WE INVEST IN RELIABILITY.
We’ve invested tens of millions of dollars to build a stronger, more reliable electric system with fewer and shorter outages.
Here’s something I think about often. When people picture a utility, they usually see a monopoly company they never chose and feel stuck with. But I like to think EPUD’s customers did have a choice. More than four decades ago, our founders looked at what they were getting from the former utility and said yes to a better way. By choosing public power, they locked in all these benefits for generations that followed, including you.
So as we plan for the future, we’re building on a foundation those folks laid a long time ago. That public power legacy is one I’m proud to help carry forward.
Please stay safe,
Kyle Roadman
