Every October, Emerald PUD joins more than 2,000 utilities across the nation in celebrating Public Power Week. Together, we serve more than 49 million Americans, delivering all the benefits public power has to offer – benefits such as low rates, high reliability, customer responsiveness, community focus, economic development, commitment to conservation, and local control. Benefits that build better communities. Here’s a look at the advantages you have as a public power customer:

Emerald is owned by YOU, our Customer-Owner! When you pay your bill, you build equity as an owner of the company, as opposed to private power customers, whose money goes to distant shareholders.

Less overhead and a focus on service, not profits, allows Emerald to offer lower rates than private power companies. And by employing local workers from the communities we serve, crews can provide quick response times during outages and emergencies.

Fewer customers per local employee equals more focus on customer care.

Emerald is controlled locally by a Board of Directors elected by YOU. This means you share local control on all our programs and services.

Local control and management gives us more command over day-to-day operations and increases our level of safety in the field.

Emerald employees are your neighbors, living and working next door and invested in bringing you the best service possible. Since 1983, Emerald has provided safe, reliable, low-cost, not-for-profit electricity to the homes and businesses in our district. And since 1985, we have helped customers save 67,000,000 kWh – enough to power all of Creswell for more than a full year!

This year, Emerald is unable to host an open house or coffee event due to social distancing guidelines. In place of our usual festivities, we’re offering customers the chance to win one of these great prizes:

  • Heat pump water heater1 plus installation2
