Jerry Lay joined Emerald’s team shortly after the utility began operating in 1983. Hired as a temporary worker, he tagged newly acquired poles with EPUD plates in the areas previously serviced by our predecessor, Pacific Power.

Jerry had proven himself to be a reliable and conscientious worker when the temporary assignment ended in 1985, and he eagerly accepted an opportunity to move into a tree trimmer apprentice position. Here, he continued to impress; however, coming from a family of utility workers, Jerry shared an interest in pursuing line work with two of his brothers. In 1988, Jerry was accepted into Emerald’s lineman apprenticeship program, and in 1991, successfully achieved the journeyman lineman title. Jerry was promoted to line crew foreman in 1998.

Throughout Jerry’s 30+ year history with Emerald, he has been highly regarded by staff and management as a dedicated, hardworking, and skilled team member; and by customers as a friendly and knowledgeable lineman, consistently providing “Service that Shines.”
