During the summer months, energy usage is highest between the hours of 4 and 9 pm. These hours are known as peak hours. To meet the energy demand during peak hours, utilities are often forced to purchase additional power at higher costs. Reducing energy demand during peak hours saves Emerald People's Utility District money and helps to keep rates low, saving customers money as well.
This summer, you can help reduce peak hour demand by setting your air conditioner at a temperature a few degrees warmer, or by running large appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers before or after peak hours.
