Last month, we announced that scholarships have been increased from $3,000 to $5,000 starting in 2024. This month, we have more good news to share! Emerald's Board of Directors unanimously approved
an increase to Helping Hands payment assistance grants in 2024! When the program opens in February, up to $600 can be credited to qualified accounts. That's twice the amount credited in previous years!
Helping Hands is Emerald's payment assistance program that helps low income families pay their electric bill. Funded primarily by the generous donations of our customers, the program assists about 170 families per year. This year, many low income households are already facing rising costs of food, housing, fuel, and many other necessities, which can cause some to view heating their home during cold weather as a lower priority. This can put their health and safety at risk.
